Year 1

We have had a fantastic start to the year in Year 1! The children have settled in wonderfully and have already enjoyed so many exciting learning experiences and activities.

In English, we had a very mischievous visitor – the Naughty Bus! He came into our classroom and made a huge mess, so the children became detectives and searched for clues and evidence to investigate what had happened. We had lots of fun following his adventures, sharing our ideas and using our discoveries to inspire some wonderful writing. In Maths, we have enjoyed lots of practical learning, using counters, cubes, ten frames, number lines and other manipulatives to help us understand numbers up to 10. We have been practising counting, ordering, comparing and representing numbers in different ways, while developing our confidence with numbers. In Science, we have been learning about Animals Including Humans and have discovered lots of interesting facts about different animals. We explored mammals, birds, fish, reptiles and amphibians, and we also learnt about what animals eat and the differences between herbivores, carnivores and omnivores. Our History lessons have also been full of excitement as we have been learning all about toys from the past and present. We explored old toys, talked about the toys our parents and grandparents may have played with and compared them with the toys we enjoy today. We even had the opportunity to look at and explore some old toys in our classroom, which helped bring our learning to life!

It has been a wonderful start to Year 1, filled with curiosity, fun and lots of learning. We are so proud of all the children and cannot wait for many more exciting learning adventures throughout the year!
