Year 4
Welcome to Year 4!
I’m Miss Quaif, and I’m so excited to be continuing the learning journey with Year 4 this year – many of you already know me well, and I can’t wait to build on everything we’ve achieved together so far. Alongside me in class will be the wonderful Mrs Bolu, and we’re both looking forward to another fantastic year of learning and discovery.
This year is packed with exciting opportunities. In the spring term, we’ll be diving into swimming lessons, helping everyone gain confidence and develop essential water safety skills. As we move into the summer term, we’ll be preparing for the Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) – so there’ll be plenty of fun and engaging ways to sharpen our times tables knowledge.
We’ll continue to develop our computing and coding skills, exploring how technology can help us create and problem-solve. Our reading and writing will grow even stronger through a range of exciting and inspiring texts. We’ll be enjoying books from some of our favourite authors and discovering new ones that will spark our imaginations and challenge our thinking.
There’s so much to look forward to in Year 4 – from hands-on learning to new adventures and unforgettable moments. We can’t wait to get started…

Autumn 1 update
Year 4 have had a fantastic half term, filled with creativity, curiosity and collaboration across all areas of learning. The children have shown great enthusiasm for every challenge and opportunity that has come their way.
In English, they were inspired by two wonderful texts – The Baker by the Sea and Shackleton’s Journey. Through these stories, the children explored both fiction and non-fiction, developing their descriptive language, vocabulary and understanding of speech. A particular highlight was baking coconut buns to accompany their seaside writing and creating persuasive brochures to attract visitors. Their enthusiasm for reading was further sparked during a fantastic visit to Cheshunt Library, where they enjoyed exploring new books and learning more about how a library works.
Across the wider curriculum, the children have continued to build their confidence and problem-solving skills. In Maths, they have deepened their understanding of partitioning, while in Computing, they’ve been developing their coding skills and learning how to use if statements to make their programs more sophisticated.
Science has certainly captured their imagination, with the topic of electricity proving to be a big hit! The classroom buzzed with excitement—literally—as pupils built simple circuits and experimented with buzzers and bulbs. In French, they’ve been gaining confidence in speaking and listening, particularly when discussing the weather.
PE has been lively and collaborative, with children developing accuracy in their netball passing and showcasing impressive teamwork and creativity in gymnastics, using apparatus to perform complex balances with a partner.
It has been a busy and rewarding half term, full of enthusiasm and achievement. Year 4 should feel incredibly proud of all they have accomplished – and we can’t wait to see what the next half term brings!

Autumn 2 update
This half term has been a busy one, full of hard work and enthusiasm. In English, we continued to develop our writing skills and produced some fantastic sequel stories inspired by Frindleswylde. In science, we learned all about food chains, while in computing we explored Logo and developed our programming skills.
In PE, the children have been improving their dribbling and passing skills in football, as well as performing partner dances in unison inspired by Cats. Towards the end of the term, we enjoyed a pantomime performance of Dick Whittington and celebrated Jolly Jumper Day.
The children have also worked extremely hard on their times tables, with weekly improvements in their Soundcheck scores on TTRS. Well done to everyone for their effort and progress.
We hope you all have a restful holiday, and we look forward to seeing everyone in January. Please remember that swimming lessons will begin in January.
