Olympic Inspiration at Oakview Primary School
BackPupils at Oakview were left buzzing with excitement and motivation after a visit from a Team GB athlete, arranged in partnership with the social enterprise Great Athletes. The inspirational event, held on 10th February 2026 was part of a nationwide initiative to raise aspirations, promote well-being, and fundraise for vital school sports equipment.
The visiting athlete, Saffron Severn, who has represented Great Britain on the international stage, delivered a powerful assembly sharing their journey from humble beginnings to competing for their country. Their story of resilience, dedication, and overcoming obstacles had a profound impact on both students and staff.
"Hearing Saffron speak was amazing," said Jagoda, aged 8 a pupil at the school. "It made me feel like I can achieve big things too, if I work hard and don’t give up."
The visit included a high-energy, inclusive sports session led by the athlete, designed to promote teamwork, self-belief, and physical confidence. There was also time for a Q&A, giving pupils the rare chance to connect with a sporting hero.
Executive Principal, Sarah Baker, praised the impact of the visit: "This was more than just a school talk. It was an experience our students will never forget. Great Athletes is doing incredible work by bringing real role models into schools and helping young people see what’s possible."
The event is part of a national programme led by Great Athletes, a social enterprise committed to inspiring the next generation by connecting elite athletes with schools and communities. Their mission is to promote ambition, mental resilience, and healthy lifestyles through the authentic voices of sports professionals.
