Pupils from across the Generations Multi Academy Trust came together for the second Generations Unite Pupil Conference, hosted at the Broxbourne Borough Council offices.

The event welcomed school council representatives from all four Trust schools: Oakview School, Flamstead End School, Goffs-Churchgate Academy and Goffs Academy. In a powerful example of cross-phase collaboration, children from Year 2 through to Year 13 worked side by side throughout the day.

This year’s theme was sustainability, encouraging pupils to think deeply about the environmental challenges facing the planet and the practical steps schools can take to make a difference.

Through workshops, group discussions and collaborative activities, pupils explored topics such as reducing waste, saving energy, protecting biodiversity and promoting sustainable habits within their school communities. Older students supported and mentored younger pupils, ensuring that every voice was heard and valued.

The atmosphere throughout the day was one of energy, creativity and shared purpose. It was particularly inspiring to see primary and secondary students working together — demonstrating the strength of the Trust’s all-through ethos.

The conference concluded with each school creating a set of sustainability pledges. Pupils committed to tangible actions they will lead within their own settings — from reducing single-use plastics and improving recycling systems to launching awareness campaigns and eco-projects.

These pledges will now form the basis of sustainability initiatives across the Trust.

The conference also linked to upcoming events to mark the 100th birthday of David Attenborough on 8th May. Pupils discussed how they could honour his lifelong dedication to environmental education and conservation through meaningful action in their schools.

Planned activities across the Trust will celebrate his contribution while reinforcing the importance of protecting the natural world for future generations.

The second Generations Unite Pupil Conference was a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when young people are given the opportunity to lead, collaborate and take responsibility for their future. By working together across year groups and schools, pupils have shown that sustainability is not just a topic for discussion — it is a commitment to action.
